In this day and age everyone is, or has tried, making money on online, and selling something online is usually the way that people achieve their goal. The trouble is that just like all businesses, logistics are a tiresome obstacle that needs to be dealt with. The problem is that for most people or new companies this could mean that start up costs or operating costs can suddenly spiral out of control. This is where dropshipping can be a real make or break service.

The idea is simple, instead of having a warehouse full of stock that you have to keep track of and house all you have to do is find the customers just as you would in the usual day to day running of your business. The stock never goes through your hands when you are using dropshipping because all you are doing is effectively passing on the order straight to the manufacturer or distributer.

It’s an ideal marriage of convenience for both parties as this allows the product to have many more revenue channels. The cost of marketing the products is zero to the wholesaler or manufacturer. In return the cost of stocking and maintaining a warehouse facility is taken away from the people that supply everything to enable the point of sale.

You would really be surprised at how many businesses are already operating using the dropshipping method. There are literally thousands of websites set up to work this way. On EBay alone there are an infinite number of businesses set up that would never have sold one item unless they had the back up and support of a professional distribution service.

The major advantage of cost savings is obvious but there are more things to consider. To start with you don’t have to manage lots more staff as your business grows. You are also able to offer as many products as you want instead of being limited to just one or two lines that are centred around one theme. The scope for growth is virtually unlimited which means something that could have taken ten or fifteen years to achieve in the past can now be done in ten or fifteen months.

Dropshipping has emerged because of the demand from people who are running their enterprises in an online environment. That’s why this is a relatively new idea but thankfully it’s not so new that the methods have not been tried and tested. In fact it’s not hard at all to find people who are willing to drop ship and kind of product you want within reason. The only thing you have to decide is how many different products you will list.
